Computational Chemistry Symposium, A one-day symposium was held on Feb 2 nd 2023 by the School of Advanced Sciences and Languages (SASL) of VIT Bhopal University in hybrid mode. has been programmed to focus on the rapidly developing and freshly emerging areas of theoretical and computational chemistry in all its splendor with emphasis on fundamental developments in electronic structure theories, Molecular Dynamics, soft condensed matter theories in a chemical context, etc., and their significant applications. The symposium also served as a medium of learning for our young undergraduate students better understand the “Introduction to Computational Chemistry” course, and make them aware of varied applications in this area.

The symposium started with a welcome address by Prof. Hemant Kumar Nashine, Dean (SASL), VIT Bhopal, who highlighted the importance of mathematical modeling and computational chemistry for students. Following, the technical session featured two offline talks, delivered by Prof. Snigdha Thakur (Associate Professor, IISER Bhopal) and Prof. Rati Sharma (Assistant Professor, IISER Bhopal). Prof. Snigdha talked about the basics of molecular dynamics simulations and their applications for studying synthetic micro/nano motors. Afterwards, Dr. Rati delivered a lecture on applications of computational chemistry tools for studying biological systems. Next session of the symposium featured two talks in online mode, one by Prof. Madhulika Gupta (Assistant Professor, IIT ISM Dhanbad) and Prof. Anirban Hazra (Associate Professor, IISER Pune). These two talks focused on use of computational chemistry in drug designing and chemical bonding, respectively. All four talks garnered much interest and interaction with the participants. Finally, the certificates were distributed to the participants. In essence, the event has been a successful and a fruitful one for younger minds.
The symposium had the blessings of Honorable Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan, Vice President Shri Sankar Viswanathan and Assistant Vice President, Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan. The organizers also thank Prof. U Kamachi Mudali, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Senthil Kumar A, Pro Vice Chancellor, for their constant support in organizing the event.
