The seven day unit camp organised by NSS VIT Bhopal University Unit started on 18th January 2020, in the Govt. High School, Dhablarai, Sehore district. VIT Bhopal has separate units of both boys and girls respectively. The hoisting of the NSS flag by NSS program officers marked the beginning of the camp. 55 student volunteers participated in the camp.
The inaugural day of the program was graced by esteemed presence of Shri Karan Singh Verma, MLA Ichhawar, respected Assistant Vice President, VIT Bhopal University Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. G. Gunasekaran and Registrar Mr. K.K. Nair. The chief guest appreciated the efforts of the University in organizing such camps which help bring social awareness in villages. Assistant Vice President, VIT Bhopal University Ms. Kadhambari S. Viswanathan also stressed that every student studying in the University should contribute to the society through their education.
The camp primarily focussed on the issue of “Public hygiene and personal health”. The volunteers ensured proper waste and water management by constructing compost and storage pits respectively wherever needed in the village. Awareness rallies were organized across the village, highlighting the issues of public and personal hygiene. The student volunteers also conducted surveys to get a closer look of major problems faced by the villagers so as to improve their day to day lifestyle.
As a part of NSS activity, intellectual sessions were held every afternoon, where experts addressed the volunteers guiding them about their roles as an NSS volunteer towards the development of society. Director of AAWAZ organisation, Mr. Prashant Singh Dubey, was one of the guests during the intellectual session. He apprised of the critical condition of children in Madhya Pradesh majorly focusing on child trafficking and the way an NSS volunteer can safeguard the victim’s childhood. The villagers have given awareness of various important schemes by the government and precautionary actions against frauds in e-banking by Mr. Dheerendra Verma, The bank manager, Indian bank, VIT Bhopal branch.
A health awareness camp headed by Dr. Namitha Nilkanth, DTO Sehore District was also organised which was attended by approximately 350 villagers who were given proper medication and instructions for leading a healthy life.
