Web Validators
In the present age of social media and e-commerce it’s pretty much impossible to imagine an organization without a website. In the last decade this importance has grown exponentially upto the limit that now a days it has become a must-have option. The introduction of Internet by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990 revolutionized the world. But since internet or web space is an open area it has millions of problems. Think about a situation. There are two people. A and B. Since web space is open to all both of them can make something of their own without caring about any protocol or restrictions. Now comes person C. C looks at A’s work and finds it adequate and hence uses it thereby popularizing A’s work. Here what happened is A’s work got popularized and accepted without being standardized or without proper analysis. Now think about what would happen if there are millions of people doing the same for nearly 30 years. We can pretty much assume the chaotic situation.
To solve this problem comes validators. Validators? What on earth are those? Let’s take a look. Let’s go back to the scenario of 3 people. If there was a validator C could have used that to compare which one of A and B’s work is actually better and follows that path. Now comes the question: who’s to judge? Solution: a set of experts. Where do we get them? Answer: an organization like W3C.
In the modern era of web development every site normally goes through a wide range of validations by experts and beta-testers before getting deployed. Now that sounds all cool but for novices who just started web development all on their own how do they get the help they require. Answer is the same – “validators”. This time it’s not human. It’s online. Taking the help of the web to work on web. Pretty cool, huh?
So let’s take a look at different validators that are present out on the web.
- W3C Validator: One of the very best online validators out there is W3C Validator. It checks the mark-up validity of web document in HTML, XHTML, SMIL, MathML etc. There you can validate your website either by URI or by direct uploading the development file or even by directly writing the entire code there.
- Achecker: Another of the very best markup validity checker. It can perform only on HTML. Here too you can validate either by URL or by file upload or by direct code.
- Wave: Another very important online validator tool. It shows all kinds of validation problem in a nice graphical manner. Here only web addresses will work for validation. There are no options for file upload or direct code pasting.
- There are some other sites such as CynthiaSays, Dynomapper, SortSite that might be worth checking out.
