How to choose career after 12th?
It is very important to make a right choice at the right time. Do you want to be sitting in a closed space, a cubicle, hating absolutely every aspect of your job and sit there counting your days realizing you have made a huge mistake career wise. You wouldn’t believe there are a number of students who realize this all too late. Therefore a wise decision is to start early, understand your interests, passions and abilities and head on towards mapping a promising career for yourselves and lead a successful life.
Recognize your strength and accept your weaknesses
It’s important to figure out what “You” want to do at an early stage in life and prepare yourself to excel in it. This is not about your friends, your parents or your relatives, it’s all about you. It should not be a decision made under pressure. You choose it at your own time without any deception. You cannot choose a certain stream just because your family/friends pushed you to do so. They have no right to play with your future interests. All these decisions can be made easier once you come to terms with your strengths and weaknesses. Do a SWOT analysis, but with the willingness to be totally honest about yourself. The results are personal, so you don’t have to worry about people finding out. This way you can figure out your current strengths, weaknesses, threats to your goals and figure out your opportunities achievable based on the analysis. And after coming to a conclusion, all you’d need to do is reach out and put your best efforts to achieve success.
The same technique can be used to understand whether your dream institution is worth it, based on its pros and cons tabulated into a SWOT format for analysis as shown below:
Further there are a few things one should understand, board exams do cause a lot of stress, but relax and be assured you will have a lot of chances to prove yourself in this growing world. There are literally a plethora of courses in India that can be chosen based on your passion, interests and abilities. In today’s world there are a lot of out-of-the-box vocations that take you to a bright career ahead. All you have to do is research on the various career opportunities and pick out the best colleges, best courses accordingly. Thus, there is an endless sea of choices for you to choose a course after the board exams, but keep the following things in mind:
- Whatever grades you get and even if you don’t have a clear idea, fear not. In this case, the best thing to do is join a good college and pursue a bachelor’s degree of your choice which gives you 3 to 4 years to mull over your things for your future while you work hard and indulge in internships, implant training etc. and become a semi-professional.
- Always choose a degree and don’t get carried over brand exposure of a college. At the end of a course, what matters most is what you’ve learnt and achieved, not the place that helped you do so. A college brand can only take you so far, the main performance lies in your hands. So choose the right field over the brand.
- Don’t take a break. Dropping a year to study for entrance exams is not a practical idea.in case you did not make the first go, even if you think you should study all year to try again, it’s not a sure thing. It’s better to pursue a degree so that you have a fall back career, this way you wouldn’t have wasted a year and hence no regrets.
- Know your options. Learn about each one. Entering into the next phase after schooling requires some planning and compilation of interests and thought on what could satisfy that interest. This requires research from your part – on the right choice on your core subject and the college to provide you with the right opportunities.
- Explore and shortlist. Your job is not only to research, but also to come to a final & practical conclusion to what you’re going to do and where that is going to be. Because one can’t do the exploring forever. Shortlist and decide.
- Finally….follow through, without hesitation.
