Freshers Orientation Program for the Academic year 2018 – 2019
The inaugural function of the Freshers Orientation Program for students admitted in the academic year 2018-19 in VIT Bhopal was held in the Campus Auditorium on July 19, 2018. One thousand five hundred students from 26 states along with their parents attended the function.
Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Vice President, NASSCOM and Dr. Akhilesh Pandey, Chairman, M.P. Private Universities Regulatory Commission, Bhopal were the Chief Guests and Mr. Chaitanya Sathe, Vice President and Centre Head, Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai was the Guest of Honor for the program
Ms. Kadhambari S Viswanathan, Assistant Vice President, who is spearheading the VIT Bhopal University delivered the welcome address. In her address, she mentioned that VIT Bhopal University received the CAREERCONNECT Magazine’s National Education Excellence Award titled “BEST EMERGING ENGINEERING INTTITUION IN NORTH INDIA at its very first year of its commencement of the university and assured to continue its legacy of VIT for producing quality engineers.
Mr. Sathe from TCS applauded VIT for its contribution in the energy space and plethora of nationalities and culture diversity that VIT campus caters to. He talked about how artificial intelligence, cyber security can be used to eradicate social problems by implementing cutting edge technology and also he explained the future prospects of Computer Science in general and Cyber Security in particular. He also mentioned about the collaborative efforts that TCS and VIT are planning for making students future ready.
In her address to the students and faculty of VIT, Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Vice President, NASSCOM, discussed in detail about the fourth Industrial revolution and how we have to alter and adapt ourselves to the technology changes. She talked about the need to unlearn, learn and relearn to fit into the technology change with changing job scenario. She gave a presentation on Block Chain, Nano Sensors, Homomorphic Encryption, Quantum Cryptography and Cyber Security.
Dr. Akhilesh Pandey mentioned about the various schemes of Government of Madhya Pradesh and appreciated the efforts being made by VIT Bhopal University in the field of technical higher education. He briefed about the different job opportunities and avenues that are open to engineering students of every domain and stream of studies. The need of the hour is to reengineer our curriculum so that we get future ready graduates.
Dr. V Raju the former VC of VIT Vellore briefed the students about the VIT culture and what it has to offer to the students for forming a value based technical education. He explained how VIT Bhopal is different from its other campuses and what makes it so special in terms of courses being offered here at VIT Bhopal, in particular Computer Science Engineering with specialization in Cyber Security and Digital Forensic and Gaming Technology.
Mr. Shankar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT University congratulated the students on being selected to VIT especially to be chosen from among the two hundred thousand students who appeared for VITEEE. He also briefed about the expectation from every VITian and emphasised on 3Ds: Duty, Discipline and Dignity.
The Founder and Chancellor of VIT University Dr. G Viswanathan awarded scholarships to the meritorious students of VIT Bhopal and the new faculty received their appointment letters from him. He assured the parents that health, safety and academics are the three top most priorities of VIT and while highlighting about the recent placement record of VIT, he mentioned that VITians got placements with the salary packages upto 39 Lacs per annum which is indeed a feather in the cap of VIT. Adding to the milestones, the Chancellor said that VIT is committed to keep pace with the uptrends in the field of education with the inclusion of “Collaborative and Active Learning through Technology” (CALTECH) as its unique feature with studio classrooms. A host of new courses in the fields of Cyber Security and Digital Forensic, Gaming Technology and BioEngineering have been added which will transform the technical education in the years to come.
The program came to an end with the Vote of Thanks by the Vice Chancellor of VIT Bhopal University. The Registrar, VIT Bhopal University and 52 Doctoral Faculty Members and Staff were present in the Program.
